Methylene Chloride is a kind of colorless, transparent liquid, CAS number 75-09-2, formula CH2Cl2.
Solvent is the main use of dichloromethane. Dichloromethane has high solubility, low boiling point, relatively low toxicity and relatively best reaction inertness, making it the most frequently used organic solvent in organic synthesis. Its status as a solvent is almost equivalent to that of water in inorganic salt chemistry. A large amount of it is used in the manufacture of safety film film, polycarbonate, and the rest is used as paint solvent, metal degreaser, aerosol spray agent, polyurethane blowing agent, release agent, paint stripper.
Product Application:
Dichloromethane is also used as a refrigerant in industrial refrigeration systems, but it is highly hazardous and can produce toxic phosgene when in contact with open flames or hot objects. It can also generate trace amounts of hydrogen chloride when exposed to moist air, and exposure to light can enhance its corrosiveness to metals. It is used for fumigation of grains and in low-pressure refrigeration systems and air conditioning units.
In the production of polyether-type urethane foam plastics, dichloromethane is used as an auxiliary blowing agent, as well as in the production of extruded polyaluminum foam plastics. It is also used in the production of decaffeinated coffee, where it is used to remove caffeine after the coffee beans have been steamed to dissolve and float the caffeine on the surface.
